Diner Owner Deems Toddlers 'Satanic' In Facebook RantDiner Owner Deems Toddlers 'Satanic' In Facebook Rant

A San Francisco diner owner is on the defense after a Facebook rant deeming toddlers ‘satanic.’

Jennifer Bennett Piallat, owner of Zazie, tells ABC7 news the whole thing is a misunderstanding. She says her Facebook post wasn’t even referring to kids in her restaurant, but to those in a local sushi joint. But when her comment ended up on the Facebook wall of the Cole Valley Neighborhood Facebook page she moderates, and not her own private Facebook as she intended, restaurant patrons took offense.

Let’s take a look:

“This may shock you, but choosing to have children means you can’t go out to eat for roughly 3 years. Please. Accept your fate — you’re killing me,” reads her initial post.

She followed up with a comment, noting that she likes children, and even crying infants are okay when parents take them outside, but:

“…toddlers are satanic and it’s exhausting.”

This isn’t the first time an exasperated restaurant owner has vented about toddlers. In July, the owner of a Portland, Maine diner got even more explicit:

“MY DINER….MY RULES,” Darla Neugebauer posted on the Marcy’s Diner Facebook page after she screamed right back at a screaming toddler. “The only thing I am sorry for is that child has to grow up with such terrible parents.”

Bennett Piallat emphasizes she does not share these sentiments, and is asking neighborhood patrons not to penalize her employees for her joke.

“We have six high chairs, a children’s menu, every Christmas I buy ornament kits for them to put together ornaments over brunch, we have always been a family friendly restaurant,” Bennett Piallet says.

This incident aside, she has a great track record in the community, earning San Francisco’s Female Entrepreneur of the Year, and making headlines for offering employees fixed schedules, full benefits and matching 401k plans.

“I had a frustrating experience with several toddlers that were running around the [sushi] restaurant, throwing food, hitting patrons, being generally difficult,” she says, defending herself. “I was frustrated and posted on what I thought was my own Facebook page. I don’t want to be screamed at, I don’t want to have children bouncing on me, or hitting on me, and it’s frustrating as an individual.”

Eating out with a baby or toddler always runs a risk. What are your experiences with eating out with baby? Let us know in the comments below.
